Utsira Nord
As Norway's largest power producer, Statkraft has ambitions to become a significant offshore wind player in Norway. This includes taking part in the Utsira Nord auction. Statkraft teamed originally up with Mainstream and Ocean Winds, but the two partners have decided to withdraw from the Utsira Nord competition and prioritize other opportunities in their portfolios.
Statkraft is therefore assessing options to participate and succeed in the Utsira Nord license allocation.
Utsira Nord is located off the coast of Rogaland and was opened for offshore renewable energy production on 12 June 2020. With average water depths of 250 metres, the area is well suited for floating wind.
An updated timeline for the application for project areas is awaited from the Norwegian Ministry of Energy. The developers that are awarded project sites will get an exclusive right to conduct an impact assessment and to submit a licence application.
